White House press secretary Sander Huckabee has defended president Trump’s unmovable stance regarding goverment shutdown saying ‘ all actions Trump is taking are certainly lawful and non-political.
She called upon Democtrats to stop their sideshows and respect the president since there is no one above him and that trying to challenge him will never work.
This comes barely a day after Trump walked out of shutdown talks with Democrats where he tagged the negotition as an absolute ‘Waste of time’.
It’s reported Mr Trump posed a direct question to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi about whether she would fund the wall. His tweet following the meeting reflected the outcome of that – he said “bye-bye” and left.
Mr Schumer, the top Democrat in the Senate, confirmed the exchange, saying: “Trump asked Speaker Pelosi, ‘Will you agree to my wall?’ She said No.
“And he just got up and said, ‘Then we have nothing to discuss,’ and he just walked out. Again, we saw a temper tantrum because he couldn’t get his way.”
Mr Schumer also said Mr Trump had “slammed the table” – prompting an angry response from the president denying it and insisting he had been polite.
President Trump has demanded $5.7bn to build a steel barrier, which would deliver on a key campaign pledge. But Democrats – who control the House of Representatives have refused to back the funding.
